Cortona is one of the most famous cities located in the heart of Tuscany. It is the main cultural and artistic centre of the Val di Chiana after Arezzo. Cortona was founded by Etruscans between 9th and 8th century B.C. In fact, the walls that surround the city date back exactly to that period. The word “Cortona” came from the Etruscan word Curtun. After the Etruscans, Cortona was conquered by Romans, who used to call it Corito. Around the word “Cortona” there is also a mysterious and fascinating legend, that you can read on our blog page. Our city is well known all over the world, thanks to its historical, artistic and architectural beauties.
